Exciting times…

New Fabrics, Uncategorized

It must be said, the lives of The SeamStresses are always exciting… or something.  However, our most recent MIA Bazaar WAS exciting!

The SeamStresses have been spending less time together since Christmas due to life getting in the way (sob).  We spent a whole day together! And we spent most of that time making plans!

We planned what to do with our last metres of fabric for this season before our last few fairs. And THEN – we started planning a new range of fabrics for next year!  It’s all top secret at the moment but safe to say, we can’t wait!

In the meantime find us at the MIA Park Bazaar again this Saturday 2nd May 12-5pm and at the Parkview Market supporting Qatar’s animal shelters the following week on Saturday 9th May–see you soon 🙂

Naughty …. but ever so nice

Market Report

We have a lot of fun chatting to our customers at fairs but this weekend we must have been having more fun than usual because many customers commented on our grins..one even going so far as to tell us we were naughty–she clearly hasn’t met the SeamStressettes 🙂

We like to think that like the cream cake adverts of our youth we are a bit naughty but ever so nice

Ooh, we had a lovely time at the West Bay Lagoon Festive Fair this weekend.  Until the unexpected duststorm hit just as we were packing up!  And then we hit another two fairs today; the Doha British School Winter Bazaar and Tots Corner Nursery – we’ve given ourselves the evening off this evening but will be cracking on with orders first thing tomorrow!

Our Festive bunting is selling quickly and our reversible sundresses and camel and oryx t-shirts will be winging their way all over the globe as Christmas gifts.

Father Christmas is stuck on the D-ring

Market Report

DESS Festive Fair 2014A typically Doha-style to start to the wonderful DESS Festive Fair this weekend!    We had a lovely time; seasonal music, reindeer antlers, Thai corner and lovely customers both old and new. Thank you to everyone we spoke to today (especially the dads who uttered the words “buy them both” when offered up a choice).

So, to avoid getting stuck on the D-ring like Father Christmas or in mall car parks that have suddenly had half their car park spaces taken away, why don’t you shop local and carry out your Christmas shopping with The SeamStresses?  We have gifts for all ages and all the family; they have the added bonus of being light, unbreakable, postable and suitcase stuff-able.

You can catch us at several fairs in the next two weeks (the next is the West Bay Lagoon Festive Fayre in Park 10 on Friday 28th November from 10-1) or you can email or Facebook PM us with an order.  We have delivery and collection options to suit everybody.

Market Report

VCU Makers MarketWe’ve just spent a lovely day at the VCU Makers Market, thanks to everyone we met today for helping to make it so enjoyable.

What makes an enjoyable market?  Loads of different things, and it must be said we generally really enjoy all the markets and fairs we attend but today our five favourite things were:

1) New and interested, customers!

2) New and interesting vendors plus a dusting of tried and tested favourites too.

3) It was indoors! No dust, no wind, easily accessible toilets.

4) Music! And a coffee delivery!

5) Nearly all our customers paid with the correct change – this means we have a pocket full of small notes rather than having to spend 500QAR notes all week to build up our float again in time for the DESS Festive Fair next Friday.

We enjoyed it so much that we’ll be back again tomorrow!

VCU Makers Market here we come….

Uncategorized

MM BuntingIt’s been an exciting weekend at SeamStresses Towers.

In a rarity for this time of year we technically had a weekend off (no lugging of boxes, cases, rails and tables to far flung market locations).

No time for idleness though as we’ve been busy restocking and working on a special commission for the VCU Makers Market next Saturday (15th November). It’s the biggest bunting we’ve ever made and we’re really pleased with the way its turned out.

Makers-Market

We’re very excited about this event; there’s a fabulous line up of people, featuring VCU alumni and a selection of invited Doha-based designers including us–yippee!

We’re even creating some exclusive VCU themed items so come along between 9-4 next Saturday and visit us to see what we’ve been up to on our weekend off.

We can’t wait!

Where’s the tea?

Uncategorized

This was the question at the end of our last blog post.  It currently doesn’t have an answer.

We suffered tragedy at the Doha Mums Market.  A SeamStress (who shall remain nameless) dropped our Trusty Travelling Tea flasks.  We then unwittingly poured ourselves a cuppa each of tea with glass. Fortunately for the visiting hoards, we noticed before drinking too much of it and were still able to man our stall.

Given that we basically function on tea we bought two cups.  It was a very sad result of “not proper British style tea made with boiling water and something stronger Lipton yellow”.

A travesty.   So top of the list of this week’s jobs was to find new flasks before the start of the wonderful MIA bazaar that starts up again today from 12-6ish!
